Née en 1975 à Dacca, au Bangladesh, Tahmima Anam a grandi à Paris, New York et Bangkok. Issue d'une famille d'écrivains, elle a pour père le rédacteur en chef d'un des plus grands quotidiens anglophones du Bangladesh, The Daily Star.
Titulaire d'un doctorat en anthropologie sociale obtenu à l'Université de Harvard, Tahmima Anam a collaboré, entre autres, aux magazines Granta, The Guardian, The New York Times, the New Statesman... Elle est actuellement assistante de rédaction au New Statesman et habite à Londres
